What is the MVe Chair?
The MVe Chair, an evolved version on the original Pilates chair, emphasizes and encompasses the four major elements of a "movement system":
- Improved ability to guide deep muscles and manage movement
- Enhanced motor control
- Focused, quality movement rather than quantity of movement
- Controlled movements within a functional range
Additional benefits include:
Multi-planar Movements: "You are only as old as your spine is flexible!" stated Joseph Pilates. The MVe Chair provides spinal movement in all planes. The spine is capable of moving in these directions:
- Flexion (forward bending)
- Extension (back bending)
- Lateral Flexion (side bending)
- Rotation (twisting)
- Lengthening (increasing the space between each vertebra)
- Circumduction (a circular combination of flexion, lateral flexion, hyperextension, and lateral flexion to the other side)
Spinal Decompression: The MVe Chair emphasizes axial elongation. The abdominals lift in and up to align the spine and opens the space between the vertebrae to allow decompression to occur.
Whole Body Training: Regardless of the workout format chosen, the MVe Chair utilizes the entire body in coordinating the movements. The chair offers many exercises that directly target the muscles of the lumbo-pelvic girdle while other exercises involve them in a stabilizing capacity. Because of the weight bearing nature of many exercises, the program stimulates bone mineralization and helps to prevent osteoporosis.
Eccentric Training: Due to its spring-loaded design, the MVe Chair exercises offer superb opportunities for eccentric loading. This translates into greater ability to decelerate in daily life, lower the body with greater strength.
